Anchors are very powerful. They require almost no rapport at all for certain types of anchors. If someone sticks a gun in your face you might get anchored to guns. They would need no rapport at all to anchor you in that way.
It all depends on what direction you want to go into. I once got in the middle of a fight. Some guy was about to beat up a much smaller guy. I jumped in the middel of it and yelled for Kim to call 911. The attackers eyes got real big and I could see that he was scared of the police.....I anchored it. I kept firing that anchor each time he looked as if he was going to attack.
That is much different than if I want to anchor trust, connection or attraction.
In order to start proacticing anchoring you ned very little rapport at all. That is because you need to start anchoring by practicing the steps in the right way.
The most important part of anchoring is not the trigger you choose. It is the the elicitation you use in order to get to that state. That is where the art is. What do you say or do in order to get someone into a state?
The drill I use myself is this. I just practicing eliciting states. I choose one state a day for a week and then just see if I can get other poeple to feel it. The states I use are
Comfort
Connection
Playful
Helpful
Interest
Adventure
Getting away with something
I do one each day. I use one of the kind os elicitations that are explained in the Advanced Anchoring and other Sneaky Stuff DVD set.
Those are:
Blatant
Recall
Quotes
Self referencial.
I also switch between active and statice anchors to see what effect they have.
That is how you 'start' practicing. Then you move onto the next steps.
Do that for a week and see what happens
I will set up more drills to sign up for.

Can you explain the difference between active and static anchors, is an active anchor a sliding anchor?

An active anchor is one that gets someone's mind moving. Playing, Enjoyment,
A static anchor freezes the state. The " think of a time" anchor freezes time. "What is it like when you are playful" causes you to examine playful instead of be playful.
Does that make sense?

What is it like when you are playful? -- Static achor
What is it like when you feel playful? -- Active anchor
So, static anchors are bad for persuation and active anchors are good?
Are static anchors good for anything at all?
PS. Quick reply box didn't work for me.

"Getting away with something", I guess for most people it'll involved satisfaction, joyful, and pleasure.
I think is also useful to go for this "complex of feelings" like in "getting away with something", "having had my revenge", "do the right thing"; I think one cans sometimes neglect these because we tend look for the more "pure" fun, happy, adventure states.

I realized this was posted some ago and yet, today, rereading it, I noticed those drills are still missing, Tom, would you consider them again, even if not for this year, at least for the next one?
cheers,
