If YOU WANT to be convincing you have to use all of your voice. Think about it, when was the last time you really tried to convince somebody of something.
Remember as a child, when you got caught doing... Something that you were not supposed to be doing. I mean, when I was a kid I got in a lot of trouble. What is funny to me is how quickly you mind races in that moment when you get caught and have to come up with something quick.
Now, I don't know about you, but if I looked my parents straight in the eyes and said (no totality) no mom I really didn't do it. It was the other kids fault. It didn't look flammable to me... I would have spent a lot of time indoors is a child.
The key is saying anything whether it's true... Or not, is really about using your voice. Now if you want to be sincere, you better sound sincere. Even if you don't want to be sincere if you want get what you want, you better sound sincere.
I have this really bad habit. I'm sure many of you guys, like me, love to drive fast. It's my weakness and I know it. Now one of the consequences of driving fast is that they have these people out there who chase you down and tell you that you're not supposed to be driving so fast. And so you don't forget that you're not supposed to be driving so fast they give you this little yellow slip of paper. This little slip of paper tells you to go to court where a bad man in a big black robe makes you pay money.
The problem was, that at the time I had a really fast car. It was a beautiful 1965 Mustang convertible. The thing I like about that car is it was built to do one thing... go fast. If we're not supposed to drive so fast they shouldn't have built it that way.
Of course, most of the time I swear that the car had a mind of its own. I really just wanted to go 45. The car just wanted to go 90!
Anyway, I get pulled over by one of those people. As I pulled over and look in my rear view mirror my mind began to race. What to say to get out of this ticket. Now I could say a couple things. But if I didn't sound like I meant it. My ass was going to have to pay a lot of money to the bad man in the black robe.
So as I handed my license over and was asked that question, you know how fast you're going young lady, I said:
You know I'm really not sure, you, LIKE ME have had one of those times when you just AREN'T sure. You can IMAGINE that... Sometimes this car just gets away from me. I'm not saying that I EXPECT you will LET ME GO. I know that I should check the speedometer but you know how Sometimes you JUST FORGET. NOW, how fast did you think I was going?
You would be amazed how well that works!
